Beginners Courses

How to get started

The club offers a beginners package to allow members to try out Kendo and see if this is the martial art for them. The package has been designed to minimise cost to you, but also to ensure that your initial experience is sufficiently long and comprehensive enough to enable you to make a decision.

The Starter Package

The package costs £30 and consists of the following:

  • 6 weeks of tuition on the Ichi ByōShi beginners course.
  • Loan Bokuto(wooden) and Shinai(bamboo) swords.
Temporary membership of the BKA is acquired directly.

Want to have a look?

If you would like to come and visit the club, you are welcome to come along and observe a training session. We apologise but we cannot allow you to train with us on that visit.

BKA Membership and Insurance

BKA Membership

In order to train you MUST have insurance. Insurance is gained through membership of the British Kendo Association and is the only source we recognise.

If you are joining us from another club, then you will be required to prove membership.

New joiners who take the beginners package, will have 3 months of temporary membership, with insurance, from the BKA. At the end of the trial period, this will need to be converted to full membership.
